Moving my dog, Maverick, from Canada to New Zealand was easily one of the most stressful and emotional things I have ever done. New Zealand has incredibly strict import requirements, and the amount of paperwork, veterinary appointments, government endorsements, flight arrangements, crate requirements, timelines, and tiny details that have to line up perfectly is overwhelming. From the beginning, Fiona made the entire process feel manageable. Fiona was absolutely incredible. She answered what felt like a million questions from me, kept me updated, explained things when I was confused or stressed, and genuinely made me feel like Maverick was being cared for as her own dog rather than just another animal being shipped overseas. There were so many moving parts and moments where I was anxious about something going wrong, and she was always there to help figure it out or reassure me. What stood out the most to me was how much the entire team genuinely cared about Maverick. Having to hand your dog over and then not be there to comfort them or explain what is happening is such a horrible feeling. Knowing that he was in the hands of people who were patient, kind, experienced, and actually cared about his wellbeing made an incredibly difficult experience so much easier. They coordinated everything through Vancouver, including his boarding, veterinary requirements, CFIA/export requirements, cargo arrangements, international flight, and all of the logistics needed to get him safely to New Zealand. There is SO much that goes on behind the scenes with an international pet move like this, and I cannot imagine trying to navigate it without them. Maverick made it safely to New Zealand and did amazingly throughout his journey. Seeing him happy and safe on the other side made every bit of stress worth it, and I truly believe that is because we had the right people taking care of him. Firstly, their knowledge of the relocation process, and the exact requirements of the receiving country when it comes to vaccines, vet treatments and documentation needed was outstanding. We experienced some other companies giving us incorrect or incomplete information on the veterinary requirements needed for a UK import, but the team at Relopet was a breath of fresh air and gave really calm, clear and accurate advice which was a real reassurance to us. Secondly, the logistical support offered by the team is just exceptional. They guide you through each step of the process, provide ongoing support and reassurance, and can even support with document collection and compilation from the vet, attending CFIA appointments on our behalf, and even offered support with sourcing a crate and transport to the airport at the last minute when our circumstances were challenging. Thirdly, and most importantly to us, their ability to calmly and effectively navigate last minute changes and adversity was amazing. We experienced various challenges with our dog Max's flight home, including airline cancellations, additional flight rearrangements, and then at the last minute Max became unexpectedly unwell to the point where we had to postpone his flight indefinitely, and then further re-arrange his flight and surrounding appointments. We were so grateful to have the support of Cassandra, our agent, who not only went truly above and beyond to ensure that our travel plans were adapted accordingly and at minimal further stress to us, but provided ongoing reassurance and emotional support during the very difficult period.
