Dayana highlighted an important quirk in pet travel to the United Kingdom: “All the documents need to be completed in blue ink,” said Dayana. “Otherwise, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency will send you back and ask the veterinarian to redo everything,” she explained. This small detail can cause major delays, and pet owners must follow this rule to avoid unnecessary setbacks.

Australia’s Stringent Regulations

Dayana also discussed the strict requirements for pet travel to Australia. “For Australia, experts recommend a more than half-year period to prepare all necessary health tests and paperwork,” she noted. With stringent regulations in place, particularly surrounding rabies vaccinations, pet owners need to start planning well in advance.

Quarantine Requirements

Dayana also reminded pet owners, “All dogs and cats coming to Australia or New Zealand from Canada are also bound for a quarantine of at least 10 days.” This quarantine period can be stressful for pets and owners alike, so it’s important to be prepared for it.

Finally, Dayana emphasized how even the smallest mistake in the documentation can result in significant delays or even the return of the pet to its origin. “A tiny mistake, like even maybe one digit off from a microchip number, will cause the pet to be detained in quarantine for God knows how many days or returned to Canada,” she shared.
