Check Brazilian Import Requirements.

You will need to check with the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Supply (MAPA) for the most up-to-date requirements for bringing pets into the country. This will usually involve obtaining a health certificate, proof of vaccination, and potentially other documents. It is important to start this process early, as it may take some time to complete.
Permits and Microchips are Not Required.
One of the best things about shipping your dog or cat to Brazil is that you won’t need an Import Permit from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply. However, when you arrive in Brazil, you’ll need to present an International Veterinary Certificate or Pet Passport that has been issued or endorsed by an Official Veterinarian from your country’s Veterinary Authority. With this, keep in mind that certificates or passports that are signed only by a private veterinarian are not accepted.
Additionally, it’s important to mention that Official Pet Passports are only accepted from countries that reciprocally accept the Brazilian Pet Passport. For example, at this time, the European Pet Passport is not valid for entry into Brazil. Furthermore, unlike many other countries, a pet microchip is not required for a dog or cat entering the country.
Prepare your pet for travel.
Before your pet travels, it’s important to make sure they are in good health and have all necessary vaccinations. You may also want to consult with your veterinarian to see if there are any additional measures you can take to make the journey more comfortable for your pet, such as providing calming medication. The Sanitary Restrictions are Strict.

What does this mean?
For animals older 90 days.
First and foremost, all animals 90 days or older must have a rabies vaccination that has been approved by the Veterinary Authority. If it’s the animal’s first vaccination, the trip must occur 21 days after the shot.
For animals younger 90 days.
For animals younger than three months old it’s a bit more complicated. These animals can only enter Brazil without the rabies vaccination if the Veterinary Authority certifies that the animal was less than 90 days old at the time of the issuance of the International Veterinary Certificate, and it has not been on any property where there have been reported cases of urban rabies in the last 90 days. This information may be based on the owner’s statement or official epidemiological information, depending on the circumstances.
It is worth noting if your country of origin is considered rabies-free by the World Organization for Animal Health (founded as OIE), there is no need to present proof of rabies vaccination. Moreover, this information should be specified on the International Veterinary Certificate/Pet Passport.
Broad-spectrum treatment.
Additionally, the animal must be shipped within 15 days of the issue date of the International Veterinary Certificate/Pet Passport for a broad-spectrum treatment against internal and external parasites with products authorized by the Veterinary Authority. And the information must identify the active ingredients.
Veterinary exam.
Yet, the process isn’t over yet! The animal must also be examined within ten days before the date of issue of the International Veterinary Certificate/Pet Passport, showing no clinical signs of infectious or parasitic diseases and is fit for transport. It’s important to be aware that Brazil might not accept animals previously diagnosed with leishmaniasis.
Passport expiration date.
Lastly, keep in mind that the International Veterinary Certificate/Pet Passport is valid for 60 days from the date of issuance, as long as the rabies vaccination is still good. With all this information in mind, make sure to plan and work closely with your veterinarian to ensure your pet has all the necessary documentation and treatments before making the journey to Brazil.
